On October 13, 2001 my mother suffered a massive stroke. This caused right side paralysis and aphasia, the inability to speak. She now requires twenty four hour care. I now take care of my mother as she took care of me for many years. I bath her, take her to the bathroom and I dress her. I cut her food up and make sure she takes her medicine. My mother now has the emotional maturity of a two year old. She cries when she doesn’t get her way and she loves stuffed animals. She doesn’t like to take her medicine and she will pour her drink out if it is not cold enough. Let's not even get into the mental stress.
My life and my families life changed forever that day. There are things I wished I had known then that I know now. There are things I still wished I could find at my finger tips that just aren't there. I want this site to be a place to get some information and to realize that you are not alone out there. There are thousands of people going through all the things you are going through - feeling the thoughts you are feeling. Together we can help let each other know that life goes on and can get better.
